Duplantis Design Group, PC (DDG) is seeking a motivated, self-starting, Lead Construction Inspector for various projects. As a Lead Construction Inspector, you will monitor the work of contractors and provide critical support and documentation services for several private and public sector projects. Additionally, you will be responsible for establishing DDG’s construction inspection program in coordination with the Business Unit Leader.


  • Promote DDG's core values, both internally and externally, and comply with the DDG Company Manual
  • Communicate frequently with representatives for current and potential clients and contractors.
  • Assist in establishing the project budget and schedules and enforce the project controls in alignment with company processes.
  • Directly supervises inspection staff (when applicable).
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, construction crews, and project owners in a dynamic, attention-demanding environment.
  • Observes activities critical to successful implementation of projects including earthwork, base course placement, paving and curb and gutter placement, installation of drainage and utilities, stormwater management, erosion, and sediment control best management practices, etc.
  • Document key project records including daily construction progress photographically and in writing, materials notebooks, as-built plans, quantity records, and schedules.
  • Monitor contractor complaints with contract plans and specifications.
  • Monitor and document construction quantities daily.
  • Monitor and report performance of contractors to Engineer in Charge.
  • Review and coordinate with contractor’s execution plan including temporary traffic control and project construction phasing.
  • Coordinate witness of required municipal and agency inspections and witness required materials testing. 
  • Assist design staff with the production of practicable designs based on field experience and current construction trends.
  • Successful candidates will be encouraged and authorized to obtain certain ALDOT inspection and materials testing certifications, the costs for which will be reimbursable.
  • Define, create, implement, and enforce inspection protocols and procedures in accordance with contract, client, agency, company, and industry requirements & standards in coordination with the Business Unit Leader and engineering staff as well as DDG’s Quality Assurance team.
  • Forecast inspection workforce needs and communicate needed resources to the Business Unit Leader to ensure appropriate staffing to continuously service DDG’s clients’ projects.
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing prospective DDG inspectors and other support staff.
  • Administer the inspection and construction administration scope of services for the DDG Civil Engineering team in Mobile, AL and surrounding areas including overseeing, supervising, and approving the work of subordinate staff.
  • Cross training in other related fields is a potential job requirement.
  • Support the closeout of projects by the creation of as-built documents for approval by the engineer of record.
    Required Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Be able to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and other Autodesk tools preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment. 


  • 3 years minimum field construction inspection experience, preferred.
  • Experience providing construction inspection/observation/monitoring on ALDOT projects or other Department of Transportation agencies projects preferred.
  • Highly effective written/verbal communication and organizational skills; experience reviewing and preparing field reports.
  • Familiarity with commonly used surveying and construction terms.
  • Strong commitment to safety, both personally and directed toward others.
  • Experience and ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles to perform required inspection activities.
  • Valid and active certifications as an ADEM Qualified Credentialed Inspector, MUTCD Traffic Control, and Roadway Technician 1 preferred; ability to obtain these certifications in a timely manner is required.
  • Ability to pass regular and random drug screenings in accordance with DDG and client Policies.


  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, and walking on uneven terrain and pavements, concrete, grass, dirt and gravel, in an outdoor environment, observing & inspecting construction projects.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching and be able to climb on a ladder.
  • Requires ability to talk and hear and to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Wearing employer provided personal protective equipment is regularly required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Will require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  • Must be able to drive a company and/or personal vehicle to and from work sites.
