DDG assisted owners and contractors with the development of artificial turf sections to meet the project’s goal and performance requirements through the evaluation of the sub-grade section and drainage. DDG developed a sub-grade turf section combined with a sub-surface drainage system that captures and convey surface storm water away from the field. Other challenges that are taken into consideration when developing the turf section and drainage design are existing drainage area patterns, soil conditions, and ground water table. All three have influence in the final design. When designing the artificial turf, it’s important to understand how to terminate the edge of the turf. The use of a concrete band with a tack strip or direct burying the turf are options that can be used to achieve a secured turf surface. Last, should safety become a concern for athletic use, shock pads can be incorporated into the turf design section to help minimize and reduce injuries and traumas while minimize infill migration by maintaining infill level.
DDG is proud to have assisted ARCO/Murray with the design of several Topgolf facilities. In Mobile, DDG provided civil engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture services. The project was a redevelopment of an existing movie theatre site in a planned unit development. DDG prepared a demolition package and spearheaded the PUD amendment and re-subdivision process in coordination with the developer and City. The project received economic development incentives from the local jurisdictions and DDG was a proud supporter of those efforts.
