The Friends of Bayou Lafourche in partnership with Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou and Nicholls State University engaged Duplantis Design Group (DDG) to lead a public outreach and planning process to develop the 7.23-Acre site along the batture of Bayou Lafourche in front of Nicholls State University. The “Vision” document prepared a consolidated plan and priorities for the development of a greenway and blueway trail head and a method that establishes the Bayou as the front door to the Nicholls campus with Louisiana Highway 1 no longer the boundary line of the campus.
Four meetings were held with Nicholls administration, faculty, staff, student leaders, and community key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan. DDG’s Landscape Architecture division designed the Master Plan and is excited to see the park come to life! The plan includes boardwalks, floating dock, outdoor classroom, amphitheater, sculpture pads, walking trails, off-street parking, pavilion, boathouse, special-use boat launch, covered seating, multi-use building, and enhancements to LA Hwy 1.
