DDG’s design team is honored to present the recently completed Luxury Apartments and Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience located in the heart of the New Orleans Museum district. This elegant load-bearing masonry structure, initially built for Goodyear Tire Company in 1916, has been meticulously restored to its original glory in compliance with the Bureau of the National Park Services and the U.S. Secretary of the interior standards for rehabilitating historic buildings.

Our inspired design team diligently preserved this culturally significant building maintaining its integrity and the rich heritage of downtown NOLA. DDG coordinated the approval of City of New Orleans façade and sidewalk grants as the renovated building came back to life. The team provided integrated, multi-disciplined design services including architecture, civil engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture. DDG’s architectural division managed the state and federal historic tax credits requirements allowing the client to enjoy over $4.3M in incentives insuring the project’s viability. The team carefully managed the renovation/addition of fully restored existing wood windows, stucco systems, masonry veneer, ACM (aluminum composite panels), VRF cassette HVAC systems, strategically located vertical transportation, on-site-below-grade storm water collection, off street parking and landscape architecture enhancements.

A centrally located open air courtyard became the core of the development adding light through the (5) Five floor levels as well as highlighting the ground level museum’s most prized exhibits. Luxury apartment units were designed on the southern portion of level two and the remaining portions of this level became modern office spaces for the museum below. Level’s three and four include multiple contemporary apartment units one of which is fully handicapped accessible. The design team created an exciting community space on level five including an outdoor rooftop gathering space for apartment residents and museum visitors alike. The entire building is designed with an automatic sprinkler system and fully automated security systems allowing well managed access controls for all visitors and tenants. Back-up power generation is provided for redundancy
