DESCRIPTION:

DDG is actively looking to add an Engineering Manager for drainage who will oversee the planning, design, and implementation of drainage systems for a local municipality. This role ensures compliance with federal, state and local ordinances while addressing flood control, and drainage opportunities within the municipality. The engineer will work closely with contractors, municipal departments, and regulatory agencies to maintain and improve the municipality’s drainage systems.

ACTIVITIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the design and develop plans for municipal drainage systems, including stormwater sewers, regional ponds, and other water management infrastructure.
  • Manage the hydrological and hydraulic modeling and analysis to assess drainage requirements.
  • Evaluate existing drainage systems and recommend improvements or upgrades as needed to meet current and future needs.
  • Manage and oversee drainage infrastructure projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and other municipal departments to ensure timely and quality completion of drainage projects.
  • Review project designs, specifications, and plans to ensure they meet municipal standards and regulations.
  • Manage the regular inspections and assessments of existing drainage systems to identify maintenance or repair needs.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of stormwater management facilities, including catch basins, drainage pipes, and other related structures.
  • Work with the team to respond to drainage-related issues such as flooding, blockages, or system failures in a timely manner.
  • Work with local residents, businesses, and community groups to address drainage concerns and provide solutions.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on drainage-related matters to municipal departments and the public.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, urban planners, and environmental specialists to develop integrated solutions for water management and urban development.
  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and presentations for municipal leadership, regulatory agencies, and the public.Track and report on project progress, budgets, and performance.
  • Review and provide input on construction plans and Drainage Impact Studies (DIS) for proposed development projects, ensuring compliance with municipal drainage requirements and regulations.
  • Participate in public meetings and workshops to discuss drainage projects, issues, studies, and development proposals with community residents and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans for the municipal drainage system, while advising municipal leadership on best practices, policy considerations, and investment strategies to ensure the drainage network effectively serves future community needs.
  • Assist in reviewing, updating, and enhancing the City’s Standards, Specifications, and Code to ensure they reflect best practices, regulatory requirements, and long-term stormwater management goals.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Experience with drainage analysis software and engineering design software
  • Strong knowledge of hydrology & hydraulics
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required,
  • Certified Flood Manager (CFM) preferred
  • At least 7 years of experience in drainage engineering, stormwater management, or related fields.
  • Experience in designing, maintaining, and managing stormwater drainage systems and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding stormwater management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
