DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Business Unit Leader (BUL), the Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) mentors’ field and office staff to ensure they have the tools necessary for the timely completion of DDG projects. The PLS plays a crucial role in mentoring young Surveyors and developing their abilities to calculate land boundaries in various locations and generating accurate maps and reports of survey results for our clients. This position requires hands-on experience with surveying instruments and proficiency in GPS systems. To excel as a surveyor, you must possess exceptional mathematical and analytical skills, coupled with a keen eye for dimensions. The PLS supports office and field staff by mentoring, planning field activities, bidding projects and coordinating with the Survey Coordinator and Crew Manager for scheduling. This person should have skills in land measurement, equipment operation, data analysis, map creation, leadership, organization, and communication. Proficiency in CAD and GPS systems is also essential. The PLS is a champion of our company's core values while maintaining internal and external client satisfaction.
ACTIVITIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to manage and maintain a team environment that includes clients as well as field and office personnel.
- Provide leadership and guidance to all members of the survey team, this includes training, coaching, and mentoring all members with less experience.
- Strong business development and a customer service mindset is a must.
- Managing project budgets, as well as overall organizational budgets.
- Manages the budget for the survey project by ensuring that costs are tracked and that funds are used efficiently.
- Manage and assist PLS with project research and ensure specifications in contracts are met or exceeded.
- Manage fieldwork operations, including vendor selection, scheduling, and quality control.
- Mentor and train PLS, office and field survey crew members.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with all staff and clients.
- Communicate with clients to confirm crews are on track to complete projects on time.
- Providing updates if the project is behind or ahead of schedule.
- Examine previous records and evidence to ensure data accuracy.
- Research and design methods for survey processes.
- Supervise and provide guidance to field and office team.
- Report on survey results and present findings to clients.
- Collaborate with engineers and architects on several projects.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of land design drawings, construction processes, and land safety and security issues.
- 15 Business Development touches per month.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10 years of experience as a licensed surveyor
- Working knowledge of GPS
- Tech savvy, including familiarity with CAD software.
- Aptitude in math and problem-solving
- Attention to detail.
- Great organizational and leadership skills
- Professional Land Surveying License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to regularly work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, wet, and muddy conditions, and high/precarious places.
- Ability to travel frequently and work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
- Ability to lift equipment or objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds.
